హైదరాబాద్ బుక్ ట్రస్ట్ ఆమె ఎన్నో కథల్ని, నవలల్ని తెలుగులోకి అనువాదం చేసి ప్రచురించింది. ‘శ్రీ శ్రీ గణేష్ మహిమ’ను 1982 లో ‘రాకాసికోర’గా, ‘హజార్ చౌరాసి కీ మా’ను 1983 లో ‘ఒక తల్లి’గా, ‘జంగల్ కి అధికార్’ను 1985 లో ‘ఎవరిదీ అడవి’గా, ‘దాయిన్’ను 1986 లో ‘దయ్యాలున్నాయి జాగ్రత్త’గా, ‘బషాయి తుడు’, ‘రుడాలి కథలు’, ‘చోళీ కే పీచే’ లను అవే పేర్లతో 1997, 98 లలో తీసుకువచ్చింది. ఒక తరం తెలుగు వాళ్ళు ఆమె పుస్తకాలు చదివి పెరిగారని చెప్పడం అతిశయోక్తి కాదేమో. “ఆమె రచనల సారాంశం ఒకటే: అన్యాయాన్ని రూపుమాపడం” అంటారు ఆమెతో సన్నిహితంగా పని చేసిన రచయిత, సామాజిక కార్యకర్త జి.ఎన్. దేవి. “తనకు అన్యాయం అని అనిపించిన ప్రతి విషయంపై ఆమె ఉద్యమించింది. మనస్ఫూర్తిగా ఆ ఉద్యమంలో పాలు పంచుకోవడమే తప్ప ఎన్నడూ తిరిగి చూడలేదు.” ఈ అనువాద కథల సంకలనం HBT ఆమెకు ఇస్తున్న చిరు నివాళి.

Mahasweta Devi straddled the Indian literary scene like a colossus for close to half a century from 1974 when her Hazaar Churashir Maa appeared to the year she died. Year after year, her stories, novels, children’s stories, plays and essays appeared to create a churning in all parts of India. HBT translated many of her novels and stories. Sri Sri Ganesh Mahima came first in 1982 as Rakasikora, Hazaar Churasher Maa as Oka Talli in 1983, Jangal ka adhikar as Evaridi adivi in 1985, Daayin as Dayyalunnayi jagruts in 1986, Basai Tudu in 1997, Rudali kathali in 1998, Choli ke peechhe the same year. A whole generation of Telugu people grew up reading her stories. “Her writing addressed one single word: injustice,” G. N. Devy, a writer and activist who worked closely with Ms. Devi, said. “Wherever she saw what she thought was injustice, she plunged into the struggle and never looked back.”HBT pays tribute to this extraordinary writer with this anthology of her translated stories.
