He accepted the socio-economic theory of Marxism and worked for most of his life as an academic in the United Kingdom. He also wrote a number of groundbreaking books on the subject of archaeology and prehistory, most notably Man Makes Himself (1936) and What Happened in History (1942). \nTranslator Vallompati Venkatasubbaiah (1937-2007) was born and raised in Chittoor district and taught at BT College, Madananapalle. One of the foremost literary critics, he was a Kendra Sahitya Akademy awardee.
