The author acknowledges the labours of distinguished scholars, both foreign and Indian, who did pioneering work in constructing the history of South India and interpreting the problems which faced them. He stands on a definite theory of history known as historical materialism. \nAuthor Kambhampati Satyanarayana (1909-1983) participated in the freedom movement and was active in the Communist movement. He was a peoples’ historian, political commentator and worked on the editorial boards of several newspapers. \nTranslator Mahidhar Rammohan Rao (1909-2000) was a famous novelist of his age as well as translator. His Telugu novel Kollayi Gattitenemi? written in the early 1960s won the Andhra Pradesh Sahitya Academy award in 1969. It is available in English translation as Swarajyam. Without formal schooling, he acquired scholarship in Telugu, Sanskrit, Hindi, Bengali, English, and Russian.

ఈ పుస్తకానికన్నా పూర్వం రచించిన ఆంధ్రదేశ చరిత్రలున్నాయి. అవి  సాధారణంగా రాజవంశాలనో, ప్రముఖ వ్యక్తులనో కీర్తిస్తూ సామ్రాజ్య విస్తీర్ణతను ప్రశంసించేవిగా ఉన్నాయి. శాతవాహనులు తెలుగువారేనా? విజయనగర సామ్రాజ్యం తెలుగువారిదేనా? కాకతీయుల వర్ణమేది? ఇటువంటి ప్రశ్నలకు ఆ చరిత్ర గ్రంథాలలో ప్రాధాన్యమెక్కువ. కంభంపాటి సత్యనారాయణ బహు ప్రయాశలకోర్చి, ఎన్నో గ్రంథాలను పరిశీలించి స్వతంత్ర పరిశోధన చేసి ఈ గ్రంథాన్ని రచించాడు. యూరపులో ఫ్యూడలిజానికి, మన దేశంలో చిరకాలం వర్ధిల్లిన  స్వయంపూర్ణ గ్రామీణ వ్యవస్థకూగల బేదాలను ఇందులో ప్రతిపాదించాడు. ఈ పద్దతిలో ఆంధ్రదేశానికి చరిత్ర కూర్చటం ఇదే ప్రధమం. ఆంధ్రుల సంస్కృతి చరిత్ర గురించి తెలుసుకోదగినవారికి ఎంతో  విలువైన పుస్తకం.

రచయిత: కంభంపాటి సత్యనారాయణ (1909-1983) పెక్కు గ్రంథాల రచయిత. ఈ రచనలన్నీ చాలా ప్రముఖమైనవిగా గుర్తింపబడ్డాయి. స్వాతంత్ర సమరంలో పాల్గొని అనేక సంవత్సరాలపాటు జైలు జీవితాన్ని అనుభవించాడు. నవశక్తి, ప్రజాశక్తి, విశాలాంధ్ర, సందేశం పత్రికలకు సంపాదకవర్గ సభ్యుడిగా, రాజకీయ అధ్యాపకుడిగా పనిచేశాడు.

అనువాదం:  మహీధర రామమోహనరావు (1909-2000) ప్రజల ఆర్ధిక, సామాజిక, రాజకీయ జీవితాల ఆధారంగా అనేక నవలలను రచించిన సుప్రసిద్ధ రచయిత. మంచి అనువాదకుడు. ప్రజా ఉద్యమాలలో క్రియాశీలంగా పాల్గొన్న వ్యక్తి.
